Overview

WHAT IS A CURE?

CURE stands for Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience, the collaborative experience with students and faculty has come to be called (Auchincloss et al. 2014).  During a CURE, students investigate research questions of interest to the broader scientific community as a part of their general coursework.  CURE research questions represent novel problems with unknown answers – and data generated during the CURE is later shared with the research community. It is a new way of conducting research, often called ‘authentic’ or novel research in the classroom, in which students are offered an opportunity to conduct research as part of a course.  For more information about CUREs, as well as other CURE projects, visit the CUREnet website.

WHAT IS A D-CURE?

D-CURE (Digital Course Based Undergraduate Research Experience) is an extension of CURE with a digital component. Since many undergraduate programs may be too small to house large facilities and equipment for experiments, digital tools will allow for more students to engage in data collection and research.

By conducting science through the examination of digital images, using computational tools for measuring and collecting, sharing and peer reviewing our data and hypotheses, we are able to provide students the essential elements that define a CURE while expanding access for more students to participate.

As this is research and the intellectual property of the student and faculty collaborators who are participating, data and images currently will only be shared in our group and not made available publicly. We look forward to this science engagement with you!
